1961 brought major league baseball to Minnesota in the form of the Twins, formerly the Washington Senators American League franchise. 1961 also brought baseball fans in the Upper Midwest a whole new world of sports collectibles and memorabilia. In addition to the usual baseball gum cards we now had pennants, bobblehead dolls, scorecards, yearbooks, pocket schedules -- and photos, in all forms, shapes and sizes.
This, the "postcards/photos" section of TwinsCards.com, hopes to take you on a tour through this vast and diverse area of Twins collecting. We have sections for team-issue 4x5 photos, a carryover from the Twins' days as the Washington Senators; glossy "press" and other 8x10 photos. We have 5x7 photos of various issue, mainly from the early 1960s. We have postcards in color, and black and white, team and private issue; Twins-related stadium postcards documenting their "homes" over the decades. And finally we have our "other/miscellaneous" group which will include the popular Volpe portraits from 1963-1964, the 1970 Wheeldon Super Valu prints from 1970, a special section containing only Twins team photos, and anything else that doesn't fit into the preceding categories.
Our goal here is to share information and images of all Twins-related photo issues and expand everyone's knowledge of these issues, including our own. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, please feel free to contact us at photos@twinscards.com. And if you have Twins items that we appear to be missing or that you feel should be included here, we would love to hear from you! We hope to receive and post here quality images from you, and will give credit for your submissions.
Thanks for visiting -- enjoy your tour!!
